Most everyone nowadays are conscious of what could happen and don't actually force the involvement of alcohol..but there's def still that peer pressure that most anyone could be influenced by. They can be fun to plan but also not fun to know that that person is completely uncomfortable with what they have to do. It's definitely a debatable situation..what do you think??

Hazing
Have you ever been involved in some sort of "rookie party"? I wonder how many teams/people still actually do these. I know that pretty much every team or whichever used to always have them but with more awareness on hazing and everything many universities, high schools or whatever have really been trying to stop it. A surprising number of athlete's, etc. have actually been killed at these sorts of parties. Even close by you hear of someone who has drank a little too much voluntarily or involuntarily and died from an accident.

September
We've only gone to school for one full week and I am already behind... Basketball has started and is already making me sacrifice study time to get caught up with my school work. But got part of the weekend to work on it...and the other part of the weekend will be spent on more basketball. Don't get me wrong I have no problem spending all this time on basketball..I actually wouldn't know what to do if I didn't!
Also this weekend is a worldwide event called Go Shoeless with Right to Play! It is an event that raises money and awareness for the less fortunate kids in third world countries by giving them opportunities through sport.
Our event at my university is a couple soccer games and a football game, where the coaches in the soccer games won't be wearing any shoes and the crowd can "shoe check" theirs.
Also this weekend is the grand opening of our schools soccer field and an alumini weekend for the soccer teams.

On Sunday is the Terry Fox Run which my whole team will be participating in. Then after that is... more homework for me.
Hope all of you have a great weekend!

All moved in (sort of)
Officially moved into my apartment! We still have one more roommate to move in but we have everything for the kitchen, living room unpacked and the cupboard has been completely clean for the first time tonight! I am still trying to get all my clothes and stuff unpacked..ran out of hangers and didn't bring a dresser so I've got some clothes laying around on the floor.
Also basketball has sort of started. We've been getting together to scrimmage and do some cardio stuff but our first official tryout is on Friday. We have about 6 new recruits this year, including a couple transfers. I'm not so sure I'll be on the team yet and am definitely nervous..can't say I had such a great year last year.
Anyways..guess I could do some more unpacking!

Pat Summitt
Just this week the famous basketball coach Pat Summitt who has had an amazing career coaching the Lady Vols at the University of Tennessee announced that she has learned she has had the beginning of symptoms for dimentia, Alzheimer's type. Pat has had a lasting influence on many of the players she coached including Kara Lawson, Tamika Catching, Candace Parker, etc. She has coached the Lady Vols to many titles over the years and has earned respect from many of her peers and fellow coaches. She decided to try and continue coaching her players this year and will rely on help from her assistants and coaching staff. I'm a big fan of the team and Pat and hope all works out for her as her and her big family fight the disease.
Here's a video where she announces to the public about the disease and her plans:

Summer is coming to an end...
I can't believe that summer is almost over. Tomorrow is my last day at work and Saturday my family and I are going to the states to do some shopping. Then the next week it's time to start moving in to my apartment...don't know if I'm excited to go back or dreading it yet. Lets put it this way. Excited to see everyone but dreading the school work...
I've already started packing some stuff. Mom's got boxes of little apartment things that I never would have thought of.. and it'll be somewhat of a surprise to see what my roomate's bring although we have talked about what we've all got for the big things like a couch, table, etc.
Well enough babbling for today...I guess I should head to the gym tonight to get some training in!
